Loft Conversions:
Converting your roof space has become more popular over the past few years, as a good alternative to extending elsewhere.
A lot of people don't realise that the space above their heads, usually a dumping ground for the Christmas decorations, suitcases etc can be turned into more valuable living accommodation. Of course, not all roof spaces are suitable for conversion but many are! If you only have a small garden area which you don't wish to lose, a loft room may be your answer. Loft conversions can usually provide extra bedroom(s) plus bathroom/en-suite where suitable. A smaller amount of storage space can usually be left to keep those possessions stored away. Loft rooms can be formed with either roof windows giving daylight and ventilation or, in certain cases a dormer structure can be formed, increasing the amount of usable floor space and ceiling headroom. In most cases, loft conversions can be carried out without the need of formal Planning Consent. Purpose made stairs, designed to compliment the existing, form a pleasing and flowing access arrangement to the new room(s). What started out as a cold, dark storage area usually ends up being the new 'Master Bedroom' or a seperate room for the growing children. Loft conversions are a particular favourite of mine as each conversion turns out to be different from any other. In all cases of loft conversions, Building Regulations consent is required |
