Extensions:An extension is usually the easiest way to gain that extra room or rooms on your property.
Whether single or double storey, to the side, rear or front, the rules are generally the same although extensions to the front of your house are usually less desirable under current Planning Regulations. A good rule of thumb is not to make the extension any larger than you realistically need. That way, it will probably not cause too many problems and should fall somewhere close to your budget. Extensions can take many forms, either single or double storey, to the rear, side or front of your property. Single storey extensions are usually more straight forward and, under recent changes to the Planning Regulations, they may not actually require formal Planning approval. Larger double storey extensions will require more careful consideration so that neighbours are not unduly affected by the proposal and the design will need to meet with strict Planning guidelines. In all cases of Extensions, Building Regulations Consent will be required! |
